Mrs. Antin and the team at TanahLiat 9 chose ceramics as their medium for their work because of its unique and complex challenges. Ceramic production at TanahLiat 9 begins with the shaping stage, which is carried out using techniques such as pinch, coil, slab, or throwing. After shaping, the clay is dried naturally. The first firing is carried out at a temperature of around 900°C for 5–8 hours, producing biscuit ceramics. After cooling, the work is decorated or glazed using various techniques, such as dipping or brushing. The process concludes with a second firing at temperatures up to 1250°C for 8–12 hours.

The type of clay used depends on the desired character of the work. The greatest challenge in this process is precision and patience, especially during firing, as the final result is greatly influenced by the temperature and technique used. Ceramics are not just objects, but the embodiment of profound expression and process.
