This year, Indonesia commemorated the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia's independence with the national theme "United Sovereignty, Prosperous People, Advanced Indonesia." A series of events were held throughout August to celebrate this historic moment, starting with a national prayer at the proclamation monument, which involved figures from various faiths, as a symbol of national harmony and unity.

Official state activities began on August 13, including the inauguration of the Flag Raising Troops (Paskibraka), the presentation of honorary medals, and the President's state address on August 15. As usual, the culmination took place on August 17, beginning with the raising of the Heirloom Flag from the National Monument (Monas) to the Merdeka Palace, accompanied by a carriage and cavalry. The procession continued with the proclamation ceremony, the lowering of the flag, and a people's party held directly at the Palace, a new tradition featuring local cuisine, art performances, and traditional entertainment.

This year's unique event is the evening Independence Carnival, featuring a parade of decorated floats from various agencies. The public can participate by voting online for their favorite float, with the winner announced a week later.

In addition, Jakarta presents various public activities such as the Red and White Car-Free Day, the independence festival at JIExpo, historical tours with the theme "Jakarta 1945", and an Augmented Reality technology experience at Monas which introduces national heroes interactively.
