Roby Alfares, a young artist from Mataram, Lombok, is pursuing his artistic career while completing his studies in Yogyakarta. His interest in art began in junior high school, when he became active in an online drawing community. Although he only began painting in 2022 while studying, Roby has already shown rapid development in his artistic style and character.
Inspired by artists like Leonardo da Vinci and René Magritte, Roby explored various techniques and references until he finally found the stroke style that best represented him. He discovered this style through trial and error, until he reached a point of comfort in his work.

Roby's works often speak about his surroundings, both personal stories and the experiences of others. One of his most eye-catching works is titled "The Guardian of Growth," a tribute to a mother who consistently supports her child throughout her life's journey.
In the creative process, Roby chooses to pause when he feels stuck. He prefers to take time to review the work in progress rather than rushing to a new idea. "Sometimes, while I'm painting, another idea comes to me. But I choose to focus on completing the current one," he said.

Roby also highlighted the important role of young artists in today's art ecosystem. He stated that a new generation has begun to enter the industry by participating in exhibitions, collaborating with galleries, and succeeding previous artists. However, he acknowledged that the biggest challenge is building a portfolio to be able to show in larger art spaces, as many young artists have not received adequate exposure.
