According to the book Golden Age Parenting (2020), by the age of 4, children have reached 50% of their intelligence. Other research shows that 80% of brain development occurs before the age of 6. This is the time when children are experiencing the greatest "data download" phase of their lives.

Gabrielle Andhita, a mother and children's book illustrator known as Elle, describes a child's brain at this stage as a "plastic sponge," naturally absorbing information and experiences. Every hug, glance, and simple conversation parents have helps shape who they will become. This period is like building the foundation of a skyscraper; the stronger the foundation, the higher the building can stand.
