Every April 21st, we commemorate Kartini Day. A special day to commemorate the struggle of R.A. Kartini, a remarkable woman who paved the way for Indonesian women to gain equal rights, particularly in education and freedom of thought. Its spirit is not only about the past, but also about how women today can continue to work amidst today's global challenges.

In the past, the space for women to create was very limited. But now, women have more opportunities to showcase their talents and creativity. In the art world, the names of female artists continue to emerge and bring a breath of fresh air. They are bold painters, expressive dancers, sculptors, writers, photographers, film directors, and even astronauts. Names like Christine Hakim, who shines again through her role in the series "The Last of Us," or Greta Gerwig, who has had a huge success with the film "Barbie," are proof that women are now capable of leading the global art scene.

Interestingly, women's artwork often brings unique and touching perspectives. They are able to convey emotional aspects, life experiences, and social sensitivity. A growing number of female artists are addressing issues of gender equality, violence against women, and even the struggle for identity. Taylor Swift, for example, is known not only for her music but also for her courageous advocacy for women's rights and ownership of her work; likewise, Ayu Utami in Indonesia, through her writing, touches on various social and cultural issues.

Women are also increasingly playing a role in managing the arts world, such as becoming gallery owners, curators, art teachers, and even founding creative communities that empower fellow women. This demonstrates that women's roles extend beyond behind-the-scenes roles to the forefront of arts and cultural development, such as those of Butet Manurung through her creative education for indigenous communities, or Malala Yousafzai, who continues to promote access to education and expression for women around the world.

The Kartini spirit is the drive to keep moving forward and making an impact. On this Kartini Day, let's celebrate the women who continue to create. Because when women create, the world becomes more beautiful. Happy Kartini Day! To all the great women everywhere, keep creating, keep shining!
